Moura and Serpa

We are discovering that once your life settles into the usual routine that there is not always a huge amount to write about. Even in a brand new forein country after a while, you get up, you eat, you meet people you know, you clean the house, none of which makes really exciting reading. On the plus side you also get to go jollering in countryside to laces you've never been before every now and then. Last weekend we set off with Mum to go and see if we could find preserving jars in a supermarket in Portugal as we couldn't find any in the Sierra for a decent price. The drive from here to Serpa is about an hour and a half and the coutryside is starting to look beautiful with all the spring flowers beginning to come out. It is amazing that crossing the border into Portugal, the landscape actually changes. Some of it is due to the fact that you escend out of the Sierra, but the whole feel of the place is different. Serpa is quite a pretty little place, with a big castle and a ver nice little town square, where we stopped for breakfast of cafe con leche and tostada. We then went and tracked down the local Intermarche and had a great time shopping for all kinds of little bits that you can't get in Spain, including lots of bread and cheese for a picnic lunch. We then decided as it was still early that we would go and see Moura, which was the next town along and see if there was anything worth checking out.

We had a wonderful wander round the town and then found a nice little bridge on a rather murky river on which to have lunch. We then took a winding drive through the countryside to Barrancos, which is perched on the side of the mountians andhas spectacular views of the Sierra. We aregoing back there for lunch sometime soon, so we will add pictures then. They have a restuarant that everyone for miles around raves about so must be checked. out. Here is a collection of photos from the trip whichwe hope you will enjoy. We have a little videa of some of the roa that we are going to try and upload to youtube and will add a note if we are successful.
